January 2024 FMMO Class III milk price fell 87 cents from December to $15.17 per cwt, while Class II rose 16 cents to $20.04 and Class IV rose 16 cents to $19.39. The Class III-IV spread is wide enough to keep Class IV depooling incentives in place.
The lower Class III price reduces milk check values for producers in Class III-heavy markets and affects dairy product demand signals. The wide Class III-IV spread can change pooling decisions and affect farm-level milk returns.
