Argentina's peso rose briefly against the dollar on April 30 after the central bank loosened its currency intervention rules. The peso opened 1.12% stronger at 43.60 per dollar before settling near Monday's close of 44.40.
The move followed a 3.56% surge on Monday, when the bank unveiled the new measures amid a grinding recession.
A more active central bank defending the peso reduces near-term currency stress for Argentina, a major soymeal and corn exporter, which can slow forced dollar-driven export selling. The effect on feed prices is indirect and likely modest.
