FreightWaves reports that dry bulk freight rates remain depressed on April 11, 2019. Capesize rates for a 180,000 dwt ship rose about 25% in a week to $4,238 per day on Australia to North Asia routes, but the market has been weak since September 2018.
Weak dry bulk rates reflect soft cargo demand, mainly iron ore, and lower freight costs for grain shipments. The impact on feed grain prices is limited.
