A study in the journal Sustainability using Chinese data from 2004 to 2017 found public opinion, measured through search data, affects broiler prices more than avian influenza outbreaks themselves. Local and regional markets showed the largest negative effects from public sentiment.
The finding is a research result rather than a new supply event, so it has little direct price effect, though it suggests media-driven sentiment can cause broiler price swings during disease scares.
