DTN analyst Dana Mantini says South American corn and soybean production is set for sharply higher totals in 2019 after drought-hit 2018 crops, assuming favorable weather continues into May. USDA's March estimate puts Brazil's corn at 94.5 million tonnes and soybeans at 116.5 million tonnes, with private ranges that overlap these figures.
Expected large Brazilian corn and soybean crops increase export competition and point to softer soy complex and corn prices. Most of the rebound is already in the USDA numbers, so the price effect is gradual.
