Lynas Malaysia says residue from its Water Leach Purification process, an iron phosphate, can serve as a phosphate fertiliser source containing 34-49.4% P2O5. The company says this could reduce Malaysia's imports of rock phosphate, which totalled 357,531 tonnes of phosphate-containing fertilisers in 2018.
A domestic phosphate substitute could marginally trim Malaysian demand for imported rock phosphate, though the effect on global prices is likely small.
