The Thai baht is on track to be the top-performing emerging-market currency in May, gaining 0.3% against the dollar as of late morning. Foreign investors bought Thai stocks at the biggest pace in over six years on speculation of a larger weighting in the MSCI Emerging Markets index, and turned net buyers of Thai bonds for the first time since November.
A stronger baht has little direct effect on feed grains or protein meals, as Thailand is a feed importer whose currency moves mainly reflect capital flows. Feed buyers in Thailand would see slightly cheaper dollar-priced imports, but the effect is minor.
