The Korean won weakened in recent weeks to KRW 1,191 per USD on May 16, a 4.8% drop from a year earlier and a two-year low against the dollar. The decline is attributed to China's retaliatory tariffs on $60 billion of US goods and a slowdown in growth, and Nomura expects the BOK to hold rates before cutting later.
A weaker won raises the cost of imported feed for Korean buyers and reflects trade-war demand risks that could weigh on US export demand.
