LMIC reported that wholesale chicken prices have rallied strongly since late 2018, with breast meat near $1.30/lb and wings above $1.90/lb. Leg quarters have risen from below 30 cents to the low 40s since mid-March, and hatchery output rose 1% in the first quarter.
Improved packer margins and higher prices are encouraging chicken producers to expand, which will raise future broiler feed demand. Firmer chicken prices also support the protein complex as feed buyers plan for higher output.
