Global Fishing Watch announced that Peru's vessel tracking data for the anchovy fleet is now publicly viewable as the first season opens May 4. The fleet of about 850 vessels is expected to catch just over 2 million tons, mainly for fishmeal and oil.
Anyone can now track each vessel as the season progresses.
Greater transparency on fleet activity helps buyers track catch pace against the quota in near real time. It does not itself change supply, so the price effect is minimal.
