Major UK milk processors are announcing February or March farmgate price cuts as wholesale butter, mild cheddar, and skimmed milk powder values fall. The Ampe fell 7% to 35.1p per litre in January and MCVE fell 7% to 44.5p per litre.
Falling wholesale dairy values are passing through to lower farmgate milk prices, and forecasts show milk output remaining 1-2% above last year. This keeps the dairy price outlook bearish, with pressure on UK producer margins.
