The July NYMEX natural gas contract settled at $2.291 on June 26 after a light-trading session. The EIA storage report was due that day and was expected to show a 99 bcf injection, compared with 66 bcf a year earlier and a five-year average of 70 bcf.
A storage injection above average points to ample supply and keeps near-term gas prices under pressure. The effect on feed markets is minimal.
