US pork exports fell 6% in January-April 2019 to 848,500 tonnes, with Mexico shipments down 19% after Mexico's 20% tariff on US pork. Mexico removed that tariff on May 20, and the threatened US tariffs on all Mexican imports were suspended on June 8 after an immigration agreement.
Removal of Mexico's pork tariff should lift US export volumes and support hog demand in coming months. The suspension of broader US-Mexico tariffs also reduces trade risk for pork flows.
After 85 past bullish trade events, Lean Hogs moved a median +0.8% over 5 sessions (54% higher; middle half -1.8% to +4.5%), and +4.0% over 20.
