Abundant spring and early-summer rains in Texas, along with increased cotton acres, point to the largest US cotton crop in more than a decade, estimated at 22 million bales. That would yield about 6.9 million tons of whole cottonseed, with roughly 4.3 million tons available for dairy feeding.
Cotton Incorporated says the bumper crop should make whole cottonseed more affordable for dairy rations.
A larger cotton crop adds cottonseed supply, which tends to weigh on cottonseed meal and whole seed prices. Cheaper whole cottonseed could also shift dairy rations away from other protein and fat sources.
