USDA experts forecast 2019/20 global sunflower production at 50.95 million tons, down from a record 51.47 million in 2018/19. Ukraine and Russia are both expected to produce less, and Turkey's crop is also reduced.
Ukraine raised its sunflower area to 5.8 million hectares and Russia's plantings reached 8.1 million hectares.
A slightly smaller global seed crop with higher import demand supports sunflower meal prices modestly, but the effect is limited.
