U.S. ethanol production reached 1.071 million barrels per day in the week ending May 17, 2019, the highest in 37 weeks, while ending stocks rose to 23.4 million barrels. Iowa State data show ethanol operating margins have turned to losses as the net cost of corn rose about 18 percent since May 1.
Strong ethanol output keeps DDGS supply ample, but negative margins and higher corn costs could force plants to slow production, reducing corn grind and DDGS output over the summer.
