Belgium has seen a low pathogenicity H3N1 avian flu spread across roughly 70 poultry farms in West Flanders, with reported mortality of up to 60%. Because H3N1 is not on the OIE reportable list, government compensation and containment responses were slow, and an agreement on compensating farmers was only recently reached.
Outbreaks in European poultry can reduce local chicken production and shift regional demand for feed, but a contained low-path outbreak in one country is unlikely to move global feed or meal prices much.
