Peru's production ministry (Produce) set a 540,000-tonne anchovy quota for the southern fishing zone. The quota governs how much anchovy can be landed for fishmeal and oil in the southern season.
Anchovy is the main raw material for fishmeal, so the size of the southern quota sets supply of fishmeal available to feed buyers in the second half of the year. A quota at this level is a supply input that can support fishmeal prices.
