The Korean won closed at 1,198.0 per dollar on August 2, its weakest level since January 2017. The move followed President Trump's announcement of 10% tariffs on a further $300 billion of Chinese imports and Japan's removal of South Korea from its trusted-trading-partner list.
A weaker won increases the cost of imported feed for Korean buyers and reflects trade-war risk that can hit Korean export demand. This raises the cost of feed inputs priced in dollars.
