University of Wisconsin dairy economist Bob Cropp expects Class III milk prices to rise above USDA's forecast, which projects a September peak near $17.80 before easing toward $17 by December. Class III rose from a February low of $13.89 to $17.55 in July.
Below-year-ago milk output combined with strong seasonal cheese and butter demand and school milk demand supports higher Class III prices, which feed directly into dairy feed demand and cull-cow and heifer economics.
