Fishmeal producers in India have been on an indefinite strike since August 1 over a 5% GST levy applied retrospectively. More than 70 fishmeal factories have closed, and trash fish prices have fallen by more than 50% in Kerala and Karnataka.
Factory closures cut fishmeal supply and push up feed costs, and small shrimp feed makers already face shortages, so prices are likely to firm.
