China will exempt US fishmeal and shrimp broodstock from additional tariffs for one year starting September 17, according to a State Council announcement. It is the first batch of such exemptions since the trade war began and includes 14 other US goods.
Chinese customs data show China imported 102,731 metric tons of US fishmeal worth $160m in 2017, making the US its third-largest supplier.
Lower tariffs make US fishmeal more competitive in China, which could support US export demand and firm fishmeal prices. The effect is limited by the modest size of the US share of China's imports.
