Panama's Cabinet Council officially approved changes to the Panama Canal tolls structure on September 6, 2019. The changes cover Neopanamax dry bulk carriers with iron ore, ballast-transiting dry bulkers, vehicle carriers and liquid bulk.
Some segments' implementation has been postponed to April and May 2020, and passenger vessels are excluded.
Dry bulk tolls will be matched to grain tariffs and ballast transits will rise, which slightly increases the cost of shipping grain via the canal. The impact on feed grain prices is likely small.
