Infosamak's market report says the first 2019 Peruvian anchovy season began May 4 with a catch quota 36 percent below 2018, due to El Niño. Fishmeal output in Peru fell 45 percent in the first half of 2019 versus 2018, and landings were 57 percent lower by June 30.
Sharply lower Peruvian fishmeal output tightens global protein supply, supporting fishmeal and other protein meal prices. Recent landings are positive, which limits the upside.
