Several beef markets have returned to pre-fire levels after the August 8 Tyson Finney County plant fire, but negotiated cash fed cattle has not. The five-area cash average was $112.37 the week of the fire, fell to $104.93 the week before this report, and is expected near $107.
October live cattle futures settled at $106.80 and December at $110.83.
Cash cattle still trailing pre-fire levels indicates slaughter disruption continues to weigh on fed cattle values. Futures rallying toward pre-fire prices reflects expectations of firmer cash trade ahead.
