CME live cattle futures rose on light but higher direct cash cattle trade at $110 to $112 live, up about $2 from the prior week. Boxed beef was mixed, with Choice down $0.50 and Select up $3.10, and the estimated weekly slaughter was 117,000 head, down 1,000 on the week and 4,000 on the year.
Higher cash fed cattle and firm wholesale beef support live and feeder cattle values, while lighter slaughter tightens near-term beef supply. Choice beef showing signs of faltering could limit further upside.
