Saskatchewan farmers and potash miners are concerned that about 3,000 Canadian National Railway workers, represented by the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference, voted 99.2 percent in favor of strike action. The contract expired in July, and a strike could occur from November 19 with 72 hours' notice.
The timing coincides with heavy November grain shipments from a delayed harvest.
A CN strike would disrupt rail movement of Canadian grain and potash during peak shipping, which could tighten Canadian export logistics and support prices for affected commodities.
