DTN's hypothetical 50-million-gallon South Dakota ethanol plant lost 19 cents per gallon with debt service in late October, a major improvement from a 34-cent loss in September. Margins are positive for debt-free plants as ethanol rack prices rose and cost-cutting helped.
The DDGS price received fell from $130 to $125 per ton.
Better margins may encourage plants to resume production, which would support corn demand, while lower DDGS prices weigh on feed co-product values.
