ICIS data shows global LNG exports reached 355 million tonnes in 2019, up from 314.9 million tonnes in 2018, the largest annual increase on record. Europe absorbed much of the new supply, with US output rising by almost 15 million tonnes.
Oversupply of LNG is expected to keep prices low through 2020, which lowers energy costs and nitrogen fertiliser input costs. Greater European and Asian price correlation means regional gas shocks are likely to spread more widely.
