On February 25, 2020, the rupiah opened 0.19% weaker at 13,898 per US dollar in the Jakarta interbank market. Analysts linked the move to rising coronavirus cases, which had spread to more than 30 countries outside mainland China.
Analysts projected a trading range of 13,830 to 13,920.
The move was small and within a narrow range, so it has limited immediate effect on feed import costs. It does reflect the ongoing risk-off sentiment that is keeping pressure on emerging-market currencies.
