Russia's Rosselhoznadzor banned imports of feed L-lysine from US suppliers Evonik and Archer Daniels Midland, effective January 20. The US had become a major supplier after Russia banned Chinese lysine in December 2017.
Russia is also building excess domestic lysine capacity.
Losing US supply to Russia's feed market tightens import options and shifts trade flows toward other origins. Russia's push for self-sufficiency could eventually reduce import demand for lysine, which is bearish for global feed-grade lysine prices.
