CME Group is raising daily price limits on lean hog futures to 3.75 cents/lb from 3 cents, with expanded limits of 5.5 cents. The change takes effect April 13 and follows high volatility linked to African swine fever and US-China trade tensions.
Limit settlements occurred on 14% of 2019 trading days.
Wider limits are a market-structure change that may ease volatility and price discovery but do not by themselves change hog supply or demand.
