A new report from the Institute for Feed Education and Research, North American Renderers Association and Pet Food Institute, prepared by Decision Innovation Solutions, quantifies pet food ingredient use. US pet food uses about 8.65 million tons of animal- and plant-based ingredients annually, contributing US$6.9 billion to the agricultural economy.
The industry had roughly US$30 billion in 2018 retail sales on 9.8 million metric tons.
The data confirms steady domestic demand for rendered animal proteins and fats from pet food, a stable outlet that supports meat-and-bone meal and fat values, though it does not signal a price shift on its own.
