Norway's food safety agency Mattilsynet has granted a temporary exemption allowing fishmeal to be included in poultry and pig feeds. The move follows a shortage of amino acid feed ingredients caused by COVID-19 disruptions to imports.
Feed makers must apply for authorization and show documentary evidence of the shortage.
Fishmeal is being pulled into poultry and pig rations as a substitute for scarce amino acid supplies, which should lift domestic and export demand for fishmeal and support its price. The change is explicitly temporary.
