The NTSB has released its marine accident brief on a February 2019 allision in which the towboat Chad Pregracke, pushing loaded grain barges, struck the Old Highway 80 Bridge at Vicksburg. The investigation found the pilot misjudged strong crosscurrents at high river levels.
The river was more than 4 feet above flood stage at the time.
The finding highlights hazardous high-water navigation on the Lower Mississippi, but it does not change current barge supply or prices.
