AJOT reports MSC will apply a $30 per container Panama Canal Emergency Surcharge on certain US trades effective May 2, and $30/TEU or 30 EUR/TEU on Turkey, Black Sea and Syria routes effective April 30. The surcharge follows an official Panama Canal Authority advisory on Neopanamax draft limits.
Carrier surcharges on Panama routes add to ocean freight costs for exporters, which can narrow export margins and support higher freight-inclusive prices.
