Argus Media reports global fertilizer affordability remains weak, near September 2022 levels, but recovered slightly in October from a more than three-year low in August. The improvement came from falling urea, phosphate and potash prices, while the crop index resumed its decline to levels last seen in November 2019.
Weak affordability means farmers face expensive nutrients relative to crop prices, which can curb fertilizer application and future grain output. Falling urea prices ease input costs for feed grain producers, but low crop prices limit farm margins.
