The Agricultural and Applied Economics Association issued a press release on a Applied Economic Perspectives and Policy paper by Janzen and Hendricks comparing Market Facilitation Program payment rates with estimated price declines. The release says the gap between payments and price losses is larger for cotton, sorghum and wheat than for soybeans.
It also notes Congress allocated another $14 billion to the CCC in March for COVID-19 losses.
The analysis shows that trade aid varied widely by crop, which shapes how farmers respond to planting and marketing decisions. The direct price effect on feed grains is small.
