North American fertilizer producers face weak demand and trade pressures. Mosaic said in March that its 2.1 million tpy Colonsay potash mine in Saskatchewan will stay closed for the foreseeable future.
FOB New Orleans potash fell from $290/t at the start of 2019 to about $210-215/t before spring 2020 planting.
The Colonsay closure removes supply from the market, which is supportive for potash prices despite low demand. Buyers should watch whether further curtailments follow.
