Peru's Ministry of Production approved the start of the first 2020 anchovy fishing season in the north-central zone, beginning May 13. The total allowable catch is set at 2,413,000 metric tons, in line with IMARPE's biomass estimate of about 10.1 million tons.
Anchovy catches feed fishmeal and fish oil output, the main protein inputs for aquaculture and animal feed. A quota this size is a supply signal for fishmeal prices and substitutes like soybean meal.
