UK straight feed prices fell in the week to June 10, with maize gluten and whole maize delivered on farm down up to £15/t as US ethanol demand slumped during the coronavirus lockdown. Soya meal was about £300/t delivered for nearby loads, and forward soya prices were firm at £307-£310/t for November to April.
Weaker US ethanol demand is pushing maize competitively against wheat in UK feed rations, supporting maize use and capping feed costs. Currency-driven pricing and possible Brazilian soya disruption are the other factors buyers should watch.
