The European Food Safety Authority's FEEDAP panel issued a scientific opinion finding L-lysine sulfate, produced by fermentation with Corynebacterium glutamicum KFCC 11043, safe for all animal species, consumers and the environment. The panel also judged it an effective source of lysine for non-ruminants, provided it is protected from rumen degradation in ruminants.
A safety opinion like this can support EU authorization of a new lysine source, adding supply options for feed makers. The effect on lysine prices is modest.
