Novus International filed US anti-dumping petitions with the Department of Commerce and the International Trade Commission on July 29, 2020, targeting methionine imports from Spain, France and Japan. The petition says those imports are priced well below domestic producers' shipments and rose over 200% from 2017 to 2019.
If the investigations lead to duties, feed buyers could face higher methionine prices and tighter supply, since imports from these origins are a notable share of US supply. Preliminary duty determinations are not expected until early 2021, so near-term price pressure is mainly sentiment.
