SecAnim plans a Category 1 animal by-product processing plant in Widnes, Cheshire, with capital investment above £15 million. The facility is due to be commissioned in October 2020 and will produce tallow and meat and bone meal.
The tallow is for biodiesel production, while the meal will fuel the site's biomass plant.
Added UK rendering capacity could increase local tallow and MBM supply once commissioned. The effect on prices is likely small, as the meal is mainly used as fuel.
