The Philippines' Bureau of Animal Industry detected the highly infectious H5N6 avian influenza subtype at an egg-producing farm in San Luis, Pampanga province. Authorities have culled nearly 39,000 chickens to contain the outbreak.
The cull removes some layer supply locally, but the scale is small relative to global poultry output, so the price impact is limited to regional egg and feed demand.
