Novus International filed antidumping petitions on July 29, 2020 with the US Department of Commerce and the International Trade Commission. The petitions target methionine imports from Spain, France and Japan, which the company says are priced well below domestic producers' shipments.
Import volumes from the three countries reportedly rose more than 200% from 2017 to 2019.
The petition is the trigger for potential duties that would protect US methionine producers and could raise domestic prices for animal protein producers. Import substitution could shift the cost base for poultry and swine rations.
