The US Department of Commerce formally began less-than-fair-value investigations into methionine imports from France, Japan and Spain, with the notice dated August 18, 2020. The probe follows antidumping petitions filed by Novus International, a domestic producer.
Commerce will now determine whether these foreign producers sold methionine in the US below normal market value.
If Commerce finds dumping, antidumping duties on imports from these three countries could tighten US methionine supply and lift domestic prices for poultry and swine feed formulators. The outcome is still uncertain and depends on the preliminary and final determinations.
