RiceBran Technologies said pandemic pantry stockpiling pulled rice into retail channels, cutting the rough rice it could buy. The price of paddy rice roughly doubled in the second quarter, and the company also struggled to win new customers as R&D operations stayed closed.
Pandemic-driven demand drained rough rice supply and pushed paddy prices sharply higher, which raised input costs for rice-bran processors. That tightness has since eased as the harvest arrives.
