The Montreal Port Authority said the Longshoremen Union, CUPE Local 375, gave 72 hours' notice of an indefinite general strike starting August 10. The Authority said the stoppage suspends berthage and cargo handling in port terminals, while liquid bulk, Oceanex and Viterra grain operations are unaffected.
The notice signals a long disruption to container cargo at a key Canadian port, which can delay agricultural exports and raise shipping costs.
