Longshoremen at the Port of Montreal, represented by CUPE Local 375, began an indefinite strike on August 10 after a series of earlier brief stoppages. Bulk grain at Viterra's terminal is exempt, but containerized agricultural products handled at the CanEst Transit terminal may be held up.
Stoppages at Canada's second-largest port can delay containerized feed and food exports and push some vessels to other ports, which raises freight costs and adds uncertainty to shipments.
